Sand & Garlic

Recently we took a road trip south to Olympia to see the Sand in the City.   That's where they build sand sculptures downtown. This was part of the Children's Museum.  It was a great day and a lot of fun.  Olympia also has a great Farmer's Market where we got an absolutely fabulous stick of smoked cheddar cheese.  Yum!

After Olympia we headed just a bit farther south to Chehalis to the Garlic Festival!  This was okay.  I just don't understand having to pay admission when, once inside, you have to pay for everything else (crafts, food, beer).  The only thing you don't have to pay extra for is the entertainment, which was a live band (Ben Miller?).  We had Garlic Beer (yum!), a garlic brat & deep friend garlic (okay), and garlic ice cream (eh).

During the drive using my smartphone I discovered a nearby attraction- a steam train ride!  So after the festival we dashed to the train station, hoping to catch the 3 o'clock train.  Unfortunately many other festival go'ers had the same idea and the seats were sold out.  One lady exclaimed she came all the way from Tacoma (an hour drive).  I could have exclaimed that I came all the way from Whidbey Island (a 3 hour drive) but I didn't   (:
